1) Low-protein diets

Eating enough protein is one of the most important things to stop weight gain.

Protein make you feel full and satisfied, increases your metabolic rate and leads to a reduction in calories.

On the flip side, low protein can cause you to gain belly fat over the long term

Several large studies suggest that people who eat a high amount of protein are the least likely to have excess belly fat.

So make sure you have a protein source with EVERY meal

 

2) Alcohol

Ok. This isn’t a surprise, but thought I’d mention it as a friendly reminder.

What is a surprise is how many people choose to ignore this.

 I wonder why??

Having said that…. some studies show that having a glass of red wine a night can lower your risk of heart attacks and strokes.

This is great news.

However, if you get carried away and start regularly drinking too much this can lead to liver disease and other health problems.

I’m sure you know that……but did you know that men who drank more than three drinks per day were 80% more likely to have excess belly fat than men who consumed less booze.

Hello Mr. Beer-Belly!

So enjoy a drink but do keep it in moderation.

 

3) Fruit Juice

It’s a sugary drink in disguise.

Did you know…(I’d sit down for this one)…..

A glass of apple juice contains 24 grams of sugar which is the same as a glass of coke!!

Whaaaaat!!

Ok it does contain some vitamins and minerals and most likely a much better option than coke BUT it still has lots of calories and promotes Belly fat gain

Moderation is once again the key.

 

4) Not enough sleep

Getting enough Sleep is absolutely vital for your health. It’s also linked with weight gain and increased belly fat.

One study followed 68,000 women over 15 years.

Those who slept for 5 hours or less per night were more likely to gain 32lbs than those who slept at least 7 hrs.

So……GET TO BED!!
